The View
Home

Occasionally the sun does shine in Melbourne. And I have sea views from the window beside my desk at work. If you look way over, across St Paul’s Cathedral, behind the towering buildings at Southbank, you can catch glimpses of the sea in the distance. Mind you, it’s important that there is no fog, smog or low-lying cloud. At least it’s a view!

It’s amazing what you do see from my office window. There are tennis courts on top of one of the residential buildings that are springing up all over Melbourne. The other day I actually saw some people playing tennis. It must be fun playing tennis on top of a multi-storey building, but I’d hate to have to fetch the ball if you hit it out of bounds.

Often I see people hanging out their washing on the balcony. It makes me wonder about the healthiness of exhaust laden air and washing. It’s just as well so many people use unleaded petrol.

There are a few rooftop gardens out there as well. I saw someone out in one the other day. It’s amazing how the tall pines I’d been imaging shrank when I had a person as a reference point.

I’m across from a hotel too. Occasionally I see people at the windows, drawing back the curtains and leaning over to see the view. It’s fun to see all the small people and cars. I wonder if they realise that they are providing entertainment for office workers, especially when they are still in their nightclothes.

Of course, if you are reading this and you’re my boss, I only occasionally get a chance to look out the window. AND I do it in my own time. Honestly!!  Trust me!
